1) The government spent money to move to HD TV long before there was a problem with the economy
2) The selling of the whitespace airwaves resulting from HD TV more than made up for the money spent on HD TV by the govenment
3) There is NO WAY a converter box could transmit anything to the government (or anyone else) since each would need a separate frequency otherwise it would be garbled - and there is not enough frequencies for this. Cable customers need to purchase nothing - it will be a seemless changeover for them (at least the major cable companies)

You may ask why is the government so concerned and anxious to spend 8 billion dollars on her citizens to improve the clarity of a TV picture. I thought we were in a recession, almost broke and going into a depression!
Do you all know that Congress passed an undebated statutory proclamation that mandates HD conversion take place on Feb. 17, 2009 and that they willingly subsidized about 90% of the associated cost?
Is this recent, although highly touted, “additional bandwidth” cover story genuine? Is it THE ONLY reason for spending taxpayer dollars on HD conversion?
